Indeed. Efforts by US fascists like MTG, but many many before her, to maintain the myth that US society faces an existential threat from socialism were pierced decades ago by Orwell in 1984. The hard right's pathetic efforts to propagate the idea of constant war against the unseen enemy are a completely transparent political game. If there was a real political option on the left (or even in the center) someone would be there to point out that the right isn't fooling anyone (except their own disciples). The absence of open derision for people like MGT from members of congress is a pretty accurate barometer of the sad state of political debate (it barely deserves the label) in the US these days.
