Never leave sleep

The dark monotony
Of night rain
And 99's valley towns.
The asphalt snake uncoils
For hours as tires hiss
Along its broken, dazzling back.
Fleeing from chaos
Receding
Southbound to trouble.
As always.
On the nights like this
I think of a life
Where every breath isn’t
Inhaling darkness
And point my wheels
Towards its heart.
Someday, I lie,
— As Miles soothes me
Into believing the dream
That I’m playing a scene
That got cut from some film
Sketched
By Hammett or Chandler
Between books — ,
I am going to be free
Of this vale of deals,
Find a place,
I can never leave sleep.
