There's a familiar sense of injustice in Putin's words about how Russia hasn't been shown enough respect by the west since the USSR imploded, that echoes the Nazi's complaints about the way that Germany was humiliated by the peace treaty at the end of WW1. He seems to be mining the same lode of nationalist entitlement.
