This is the thought that we're not supposed to think. This is the idea that the right has demonized with an incredible intensity for the last 40 years. Redistribution, a more equitable sharing of the benefits of the economic activity of society, has to be part of any serious attempt to grapple with the interlocking problems we face. Without a serious effort to redefine the role of government in the economic system, to regulate and to set constraints on behalf of the people, there can't be answers, and we'll be perpetually flirting with the descent into fascism while the planet chokes.
